VashonBePrepared Returns for Second Community Dinner on December 1st

VISDCommunityDinner(1Dec11)Here’s a reminder to attend the December 1st Community Dinner at the Vashon High School Common Room, from 5:30 to 7:30 PM.

This month’s theme will be energy conservation, emergency preparedness and how to access and use the wonderful resources on this island to help in the event of an emergency. PSE will be handing out Take Winter by Storm ice scrapers, CFL bulbs, and low flow showerheads.

Donna Donnelly has provided the following savory winter menu for our event:

Two Hearty Soups

Fresh Bread

Winter greens and roasted beet salad

Hungarian apricot shortbread bars

$10 per person donation supports the Vashon Island Schools District’s meals program.

Organized by Puget Sound Energy’s Community Services Manager, Patricia L. McClements, the event is also sponsored by VashonBePrepared, Voice of Vashon, Puget Sound Community Credit Union, and WisEnergy Vashon.

imageThe American Red Cross (ARC) launched a newly designed website, ReadyRating.org, to help businesses, schools and other organizations better prepare for emergencies. The announcement was made at an event involving business, education and government leaders at Red Cross national headquarters in Washington DC.  Ready Rating™ is a free, self-paced, web-based membership program that helps a business or school measure how ready they are to deal with emergencies, and gives customized feedback on how they can improve their efforts.  Schools and businesses may face a number of emergencies that could disrupt their operations, ranging from natural disasters such as hurricanes and floods to outbreaks of illness such as the flu. FEMA releases National Preparedness Report today

SNAGHTML674e522Today, FEMA and its partners released the National Preparedness Report (NPR). The Report identifies significant progress the nation has made in areas of prevention, protection, mitigation, response, and recovery.  Overall the Report found that the nation has increased its collective preparedness, not only from external threats, but also for natural and technological hazards that face its communities.
