When you notice a tsunami bearing down on you, you can now pull out your smartphone to learn which way to run! The Tsunami Evacuation NW online portal and iPhone and Android apps will also tell you if you work or live in a hazardous area. Major public infrastructure facilities can be displayed (select Places) so you can identify key landmarks.

It appears this is based primarily on Cascadia & overseas based tsunamis. Given the dearth of areas mapped within Puget Sound, it probably has yet to factor in potential Seattle fault and Tacoma fault based tsunamis. (Those are modeled as producing ~4 meter inundations – not just waves.)

According to King5’s coverage on this yesterday, shortly after its introduction it noted yesterday’s 7.6 Mw quake in Oaxaca, Mexico. The map was developed by the Northwest Association of Networked Ocean Observing Systems (NANOOS).
